Child Abuse pictures + MABS = Bye Bye Mabs....

As I'm sure some of you may have seen, former member Mabs posted a rather disturbing picture or child abuse "in good humor"  I am a parent of a little girl, find NOTHING about child abuse funny.  We have received MANY responses from horrified and respected browncoat viewers, many calling for his ban over this.

The moderation team does not take permanent bannings lightly, and well, along with some of our more respected members, have decided that while Mabs gets his rocks off toeing the line, that this was so far past the line, every one who saw it was pissed, uncomfortable and very offended.

As the proud parent of a little girl, anyone joking about the little ones being abuse should be not near me.  I am going to abuse my mod powers and listen to the many complaints and ban the little *expletive deleted* into
reaverland.

Good bye Mabs, don't let the bulkhead door hit you on the way out.

I'll admit to an intelletual curiosity about just what he posted, but have no burning desire to actually satisfy that curiosity.

Not having seen the offending item I will defer to the judgement of the judgemental lot of you.  But I'm not going to hold your coat while you horsewhip him.

This is a serious question so I hope it receives a serious response -

WHY?

Why should you be glad he was on your ignore list?  How does this recent egregiousness make his other postings that much more intollerable?

Mabs was a strange duck who appeared to have several large unresolved issues that made him an outlier amonst the APS population.  And yet, in spite of or perhaps even because of that, he was considered "likeable" in his own way - sort of like a class clown who had graduated to being an actual comedian.

But how does his last escapade make everything that went before that much more unacceptabe?

I didn't see the offending post, but child sexual abuse is never something to joke about. I've worked with too many victims to see anything funny about it. I also think the two-week ban was justified.

That said....I don't agree with the perma-ban....unless he showed some signs of unrepentance. If so, it's a good call. But we won't know now. Also....to steal a quote, "If ya kill 'im, he won't learn nuthin'." Better he learn that lesson here than in public.

I think he just meant that since Mabs was on his ignore list, he didn't see the offending post.

And it was offensive. When I saw it my stomach turned and for the first time I considered reporting a post. He went way past appropriate by ANY sane definition.

Mods, while we pride ourselves for being "live and let live" around here, there are, and will always be, some folks who are just wired wrong. You should feel no guilt for a banishment like this. Since I've been here, this is only the second, the first being that really offensive guy from Czechoslovakia whose name escapes me now. In both cases you've done what needed to be done.

I saw it. It was bad. Bad enough that I didn't get it at first, simply because it was so wrong I couldn't comprehend it. One of those situations where the brain fixes what the eyes don't like.

However, I agree on the non permaban. Mabs has never struck me as a truely wrong, bad person. He says (and probably does) things that are just stupid and ill conseved, and usually apologies later (and generally learns from his mistakes)
If that's still the case, then he will learn his lesson on this. If that's not still the case, he will soon end up with a real permaban.

Yea, I saw it.

I have 2 kids, and it was way, way out of line.

I am a supporter of free speech, but it was nothing but just nasty, thoughtless, and mean.

That king of crappola is a killing offense in these parts.
