Saw a trailer last night but haven't done much research. Looked interesting though.

I remember that.  I was 11 when that happened.  Looks like it could be a good movie.

Nice to see Adrienne Barbeau in a mainstream movie again.

Also saw the preview last night.  Liked.  Looks promising.

I thought she ran off with Swamp Thing?

Nah, she hasn't been married to John Carpenter since '84.

I read the Wired article and other media that this film is based on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Caper

Just goes to show that the hosers are our friends, eh?

Will Obama take credit for that as well?

Can you summarize it in a nutshell? From the preview I got that the CIA created a fake movie company, but that's about all I caught. Anything espionage that's "based on a true story" is enough to pique my interest though. :)

In a nutshell, the Canadian ambassador took in and sheltered six Americans who had escaped the embassy takeover by the Iranians.  The CIA and the Canadians worked together to hide the Americans, create Canadian passports, and use disguises to successfully fly the Americans from Tehran to Switzerland and then to the USA.  The CIA used the pretext of location scouting for a new movie to get the CIA technical experts into Tehran for the passports and disguises and to remove the experts and the six Americans.  Tony Mendez, the CIA disguise expert, had a chapter on this in his book.

Of note, a reporter for a leading Canadian paper figured out what was going on and deliberately did not publish anything until the operation was over, for fear of compromising it.

PS: I forgot to mention that the diplomatic personnel of other countries also assisted.  But the key players were the Canadians.

Grrrr!

I immediately remembered "Jason And The Argonauts" and wondered if CGI will really beat Ray Harryhausen's work.

Gee, I'd love to see your data!

Thank you Millcreek.

So maybe some reporter will go see this and feel compelled to do the right thing on occasion, like, oh I don't know, reporting the facts, and others will follow in his wake and in time the media will actually serve the purpose it was meant for, which is to keep the public aware of the facts related to what's going on in the world, but without causing harm in the process.

Oh. Yeah. Don't know what I was thinking, this is a docu-drama, not a fairy tale.
