What is this "safety net" bullshit?

Under Obama it has become the "Safety Hammock".
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

Catchy sign.  But most won't know what it means.  I believe it is essentially a correct term for the US government.  All I can say is that you can be a nobody and run for office and win.  But the rich or elite do in fact control the show and have always controlled the show.  Tis one of the reasons that unions grew so quickly in the early 1900's in the core industries sectors that formed the back bone of the US economy (steel, mining, automotive, oil).  Now I guess, it is unions controlling government.  "For the people" is complex...  One could argue that there is no "for the people" in the USA, but rather for the one or the few using an old Star Trek anology.  Some like to equate this with the devil or power corrupts.

The US is going to have a large government controlled health care industry whether we like it or not.  Even before Obama, health care was essentially controlled by the government through the health care providers.  I hope that the Obama health care law is repealed, but we will end up with something similar regardless.  You can repeal the Obama care law or try to fix it....

Emergency rooms at hospitals have always been the safety net of the health care industry.  That's in part why they are so busy and so much of their business is written off.  Folks with insurance complain that they are paying via their premiums for those that can't pay (or won't pay).  That has been going on a long time.  It is the same thing with Federal income taxes where approximately 70% of the total tax collections are paid by a small proportion of the the people.  Somebody has to eventually pay for it and the fight has always been for somebody else to pay for mine because I'm just a poor country boy.

Using this line of reasoning, of course the rich (aka big business) are going to control government one way or another.  It's a shell game, but a shell game that they always win because they pay for it.

Some would like a qualification to vote to be consistant with the original constitution... essentially property owners.  One way or the other, the rich do control things.

It shall be as it was in the past... Not with dreams, but with strength and with courage... Shall a nation be molded to last. (The Plainsman, 1936)
