I dunno.  I can accept setting the folks responsible being set on fire and folks wrestling control from the fundimentalists.

There were individuals on this very forum who argued (wrongly, IMO) that Libyans held some kind of 'group responsibility' for the murder of Ambassador Stevens unless they 'did something' about those responsible for the killings or aligned with them.

I don't know, this certainly counts as 'doing something' to me.

Yes.  WE are the ones who ought to have done more!  I mean, it's not like 9/11 was UNPREDICTABLE-- it happens once every year!!!!!

I agree. Several good men were killed. Our employees. KILLED SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY WORK FOR US. And their supervisors' cavalier, indifferent attitude was likely a major factor.

I'm angry, and I contend I am entitled to that anger and frustration. I will offer that I do appreciate the sympathy from a segment of the Libyan population, and I do not advocate their wholesale extermination, despite any previously suggestive statements made in anger. But it's also too little too late. if this outrage had been expressed a month ago, perhaps Ambassador Stevens might be alive.

I don't see a solution, except to say that apology and appeasement ain't it with people who only respect and respond to strength.

With all the info now coming out concerning the warnings and prior knowledge of the threat, and the subsequent negligence, it would seem that the Ambassador was indeed willfully hung out to dry. And it all happened on 9/11, just when American feelings are at the most sensitive. What a way to rile up anti-muslim sentiment huh? I don't enjoy conspiracy theories but the whole situation smells a little too overripe. Prepping the masses to support more "kinetic military fieldtrips" perhaps?

Two of the fundamentalist militias have disbanded after this attack:

Why do we need embassies around the world in the first place?  Can't we just have a self-service computer kiosk?

Or better yet, an online website?

You are thinking about Consulates. Embassies are widely used as intelligence gathering hubs (yes that includes subterfuge and spying).

I can't see burning down a terrorist clubhouse as compensation for murder.

The radicals think that the UN can pass laws that bind UN member countries.  See link 1.

This is not over until those radicals are gone, and I see the problem is not confined to the Middle East.  See link 2.

It's a good start.

I am still convinced that a credible threat of utter annihilation would have caused this to happen much sooner and with better results.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

Photos with translations. Most are pretty fair.

I don't think there is such a thing as a compensation for murder, do you?

Sure there is. To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women. That is acceptable compensation.

Fire is a good second, though.
