Meatless Mondays
« on: November 12, 2012, 05:46:29 PM »
Apparently by resolution of the City Council, every Monday is now "Meatless Monday" in Los Angeles. Did they go to a Michael Bloomberg seminar or something?

So, does meat include fish? If I lived in LA, could I still enjoy a Monday can of tuna without guilt?

Man, I wish I went to school in LA county! Monday would become "packed lunch day" and I'd sit and munch my way though as much meat as possible while surronded by the envious.

Monday in LA should become Night out at the Brazilian steakhouse Mondays.

Everyone seemed to miss the part about not wanting any more fast food restaurants to open.

Councilwoman Jan Perry, who introduced the resolution, also wants to ban new fast-food restaurants in South Los Angeles.

Not being from there, I would guess that this were the vast majority of the impoverished masses reside, so we must "help" them make better food choices.

I didn't miss it, it's just that such things no longer surprise.

And I thought the bad part of L.A. was East L.A. And South Central.  ???

Of course they do! Why, she can't let her voter base get killed off by fatty foods and arteries choked with cholesterol! How else would she get in office?

Trust the folks out there to manage to take a perfectly good American tradition and [expletive deleted] it all to [other expletive deleted].

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_was_Meatless_Tuesday

Monday was wheatless.  As in all the hamburgers you could afford, but no bun.  Thank $diety those Normans made the barbarian Saxons stop picking their roasts up in their hands and tearing hunks off with their teeth.  The application of the forque allowed one to continuing to slather catsup (or that interloper ketchup) on those hockey pucks and not wind up looking like some combination of Dracula and a zombie.  (Or was that the use of napkins?  I get them mixed up.)

On Tuesday you could have all the bread you wanted, with or without catsup (or ketchup).  You could even slip a salad between the slices if you wanted to.  But no meat.

stay safe.

This is merely preparation for the day, coming soon, when meat is simply unavailable or too expensive. Good forethought, IMO.  [tinfoil]

Yeah, seeing as this isn't Chicago I can see that being an issue.

I agree, but my tuna has to have some dolphin in it.  I do draw the line at tuna company employees...

Never happen!  Soylent green will always be available at an affordable price.

Sounds not unlike when Hitler banned champagne and cognac from the dinner table as a means of showing solidarity with the German 6th Army, which was then besieged in Stalingrad.

South Central Los Angeles was renamed South Los Angeles a few years ago in an attempt to distance it from the negative (i.e, accurate) associations made with the former name:
