New gun today: Keltec P11
« on: October 21, 2012, 09:06:40 PM »
Anyone have any experience with these?

Don't care for the trigger at all, but it is super easy to just slip in a thigh pocket and go.
Need a flat holster thingy  for it, though.

Have had one on two occasions.  Have neither now, as it was way too persnickety.  If your copy is reliable, and the trigger not too gruesome, I think it will serve you well.  I like the idea of the P11.  Much easier pocket carry than my Glock 26.  I just trust the Glock more, at this point.  Also, it simplifies my logistics, which usually don't matter to many.

Let us know how it turns out.

I've carried one for years.  I recently got a PF9, which is more accurate and has a MUCH better trigger.  I recommend the trigger shoe, but only if you carry in a sturdy holster.  Pocket/belt clip with the trigger shoe is a bit too much, IMO.

Never had a malfunction or any other kind of problem.  It's still my "always" gun.  It slips away under a t-shirt in a Summer Special 2 holster.  Mine likes Hornaday TAP the best, but all the premium hollowpoints I put in it cycled just fine.

I'm hoping it works out,  but there seems to be a decent market for them up here in case it doesn't( and I only paid 265.)
Not bad.

Never dealt with a P11 but I do have a PF9 in the pocket right now.

PF9 gives a light strike about 2% of the time, and will fail to extract and feed maybe 2% of the time.  However, when it comes to either having a 96% reliable gun or no gun at all, I choose the PF9.  I need to order a stiffer hammer spring for this.  The trigger is currently very nice for such a tiny little gun... much lighter and smoother than my Smith 642 revolver.  I can handle if it gets a skosh heavier to get rid of those light strikes.

The extract/feed seems to be related to failure to clean/lube regularly.  It will do this if I leave the gun in pocket carry rotation for a month or so and then call upon it to fire.  I've been training myself to clean it every 2 weeks, but I haven't had enough trigger time with it to see if the issue is fully resolved by this.  I haven't had enough trigger time for anything lately, though. :'(

I'd be interested to hear how the P11 works out.

I experienced about the same rate of light strike failures with my PF9.  No failures to feed or extract.  A trip back to Cocoa, FL fixed the light strike problem.  I'd swear that the trigger seems harder.  A bunch of stuff got replaced (I don't have the paperwork in front of me).
