Rolling Stones tickets---ouch!
« on: November 12, 2012, 07:33:03 PM »
The Stones are going to have four concerts to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the group's founding. Two are in London, and two are in New Jersey on the 13th and 14th of December, just in time for my birthday.

I'd promised a friend I'd treat him to the next Stones concert before they retired, which I figured (and still do) will be next year.

I'd checked on ticket prices for the Jersey concerts, and decided against those. The cheapest seats are way up in the nosebleed section behind the stage, and cost $383 plus handling charges. Decent seats in the mezzanine level within binocular range (as opposed to spotting scope) are $750+. Center of the floor section in front of the Jagger's mini-stage are $5350 per ticket.

These are the scalper's prices. The tickets for those who were able to buy them when they went on sale were a couple hundred.

I think I'll wait to see if they do other concerts in the US next year, which I'm sure they will..

I saw them for $7 or $8 in the late '70's/early '80's at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis.   I think I most I ever paid for a concert ticket while I was in High School was $12.

And I got to see all the cool bands.  ;)
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

In addition to being one of the greatest rock bands of all time is the fact that I think everyone secretly hopes to be at the concert where Jagger finally just keels over. Thus higher ticket prices.

Someone (can't remember if it was Jagger himself, or not) had to take a break at the C-Ville show. Everyone was vastly disappointed yet tried not to show it when they came back on. Or so I hear. I did not have tickets and I know better then to go anywhere near UVA when big zoo like events are happening.

Dad likes to brag about the $8 doller shows at some roller rink in Northern Virginia in the same time period. He saw a lot of acts in there early years there.

Scout, I've told this over and over again, but I'll repeat it just to bug you. ;) We saw Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin (1st tour), The Doors, Steppenwolf, The Moody Blues, and a ton of other big-name entertainers for $2.50, $3.50 and $4.50 a seat.

In 1984 I got 8th row center seats for the Stones at the Rosemont Horizon outside Chicago for $10 each.
