password protected zip file
« on: February 11, 2013, 09:34:45 PM »
How do you open a password protected zip file without the password?
I needed a mod to change my signature because the concept of "family friendly" eludes me.
Just noticed that a mod changed my signature. How long ago was that?

Download a freeware brute force cracker for zip files, execute, wait.

There were vulnerabilities with a few of the zip applications years ago that meant files could be pretty easily cracked.  If that doesn't apply, as birdman suggests, brute force and time.

I just download this program.
http://www.brothersoft.com/rar-password-unlocker-270995.html
I moved the file off the laptop and onto the desktop for some horsepower. 2.4 ghz quad core.

Is it an actual .ZIP file, RAR or ACE?

If you have a good GPU, there are some brute-force applications out there that will supposedly use it to achieve some stunningly fast attempt speeds (as in, more than a million per second) but I don't have any experience with them.

Actually, good GPU's are up to 14 BILLION per second.
