So Firefox is my primary browser. I have been reduced to keeping chrome open also. I like to have certain sites open in tabs all the time. I started using chrome because of the Firefox memory problem and it seems to have the same issue. How is it that the tab that has fox news open can be consuming over a gig of memory? I mean really? Is there any solution to either of these browsers that fixes that issue. I'm sick of having every last speck of memory consumed.
I suspect an Adobe plugin is at the heart of the issue. Usually it is Adobe running riot that causes me to kill firefox. Not sure of the solution. How about those who use linux more than I, nowadays? Is there an open source adobe flash/shockwave/whatever replacement that doesn't treat RAM like an all you can eat buffet?
I run chrome all day every day on linux and never notice any issues. I use virtual workspaces for different projects and they all always have a few tabs of chrome open. I suppose it's open 99% of the time and the average number of tabs across all spaces at any given time is probably in the low 20s. I have Adobe Flash player 11 installed and nothing modifying page content except for adblockAlthough I am sitting on 32GB of ram and eight 4GHz processor cores, so take my testimony with a grain of salt
Every time I see this thread, I think it relates to me somehow. I never remember what it's about, and reopen it.
No Script does a pretty good job controlling Firefox ram problems. It is a add on you get at the Mozilla site.
