So-called "Military servicemember's safety act" petition...
« on: February 19, 2013, 12:26:49 PM »
There's a whitehouse petition circulating to pass a law similar to the nationwide cop carry law. It made its way onto my combat veterans motorcycle association facebook page.

Here's what I posted. I wonder what kind of responses i'll get?

"Remember when nationwide cop carry was passed, how the LE agencies and unions said they'd back up nationwide reciprocity? That the LE carry act was just a stepping stone?

They betrayed gun owners after that.

The military already has the ability to carry a weapon in the performance of their duties. Off duty, they are (and should be) the same as regular citizens. We don't need to create yet another protected class of citizen with an easier time exercising a constitutional right. This is one more step to separate agents of the gov from the citizenry they protect and support, and it's not right.

What we should work on instead is nationwide reciprocity for all CCW holders, regardless of affiliation with the government. Particularly considering the efforts within the federal government to curtail the second amendment rights of the citizenry.

We all took an oath to support and defend the constitution. What do you think the founders would think about a standing army that could carry with impunity, and a citizenry who could not?"

Stand-up post, Fitz.

"But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain - that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it. In either case, it is unfit to exist."

I suspect most of the members of that group will agree with me. Generally, they're freedom loving folk who believe in the constitution. Most of them carry. In fact, most of us have our CVMA vests made on vests with built in holsters.

Baby steps indeed... but while we're dreaming it'd be nice to go visit my friend in upstate New York and be able to take my XD 45 without being a criminal. Oh well. Not that I even have such a trip planned. /dreaming

If the anti's want to kill this all they'll have to do is put up pictures of Chris Dorner....(Not many people these days remember Charles Whitman or even that Lee Harvey Oswald were Marines.)
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

Has Dorner ended up bringing any new gun restrictions talk like Sandy Hook did?

Nope.

His manifesto favored gun control, gun confiscation, more gun control, more limitations, and supported the politicians that push that line.

It's hard to make a "cause" out of a crazy guy who's "on your side."
