Today, I've been playing with the macro settings on a Nikkor 28-85mm f3.4-4.5 lens.

These are the pre-amp 6922/6DJ8 pre-amp tubes of my computer's audio amplifier.

The lens was a whopping 3" away...

Looks like you need to bump your exposure time down to 1/30 or 1/20 sec.

Yeah, that was 1/40 and shot free-hand at ISO-400. 

No VR on this lens, so a longer exposure's gonna need some sort of rest.

That, or I could bump the ISO.  I didn't want to add more lighting because the tube filaments were my intended source.

This reminds me, I need to finally place that order for a nixie clock...been wanting one for a really long time.

Also, I need/want to upload pictures and have them show up, anyone recommend a photos haring site that has iOS app linkage?

Don't have to, time is already big endian :)
And decimal time is still 1:2:2 digits for a day, so I could use one for 1/10ths...but that would require someone changing the definition of the second.
