Entire School District Went To Lockdown Because Of...
« on: March 01, 2013, 09:23:52 AM »
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song as a voice mail greeting.

http://www.timesonline.com/news/police_fire_courts/schools-locked-down-over-ambiguous-message-taken-as-threat/article_e0ead4e5-046f-5679-991c-4aea6d915123.html

Eye doctor receptionist called student's phone to remind him about an upcoming appointment and got his voice mail.  She misunderstood the voicemail greeting and called police.  A county-wide lockdown was initiated because they didn't know where the student was.  The police finally got a hold of the student, who was in the guidance office of the high school, which was then swarmed by officers who took him into custody.  He was imitating the rap song to the tv show.  The DA listened to the message and determined that it did follow the original song and did NOT press charges.

I thought Will Smith was the happy rapper or something.

So did all these people actually call and listen to his voice mail or did they just take the word of whoever it was that called them?  A some level, someone needs to gut up and put a stop to nonsense like this.  Why did they even take him into custody?  Just talk to the kid for 5 minutes.  I am sure they could have figured out that he wasn't a threat.

Another example of the evils bureaucracy and lack of leadership.  I recall hearing my pastor talk about the difference between being a leader and just a manager.  Stuff like this illustrates that very well IMO.

If one of my receptionists did this without checking with me first, she would not remain one of my receptionists very long.

did NOT press charges is what you meant.

Quote
District Attorney Anthony Berosh said it was determined after listening to the message closely that it did follow the Quincy Jones-penned song and Clawson was released.
Berosh said authorities decided not to charge Clawson in the incident. However, Mann said he urged Clawson’s parents to have him change the message.

A whole society, skittish and afraid of it's own shadow.  Willing to take extreme measures attempting [poorly] to mitigate freak occurrences.  Outstanding.

28 people die because of a nutjob, the country is in an uproar and changes to public policy.

98 people die EVERY DAY on the roads, no one complains.

From the article:

“An innocent young man was embarrassed,” he said. “How is he supposed to go back to school and face his classmates?”

He'll probably manage better than the officers that detained him because he sang a song for a phone message.
