LGS Has Been Under BATFE Audit For Two Months
« on: March 05, 2013, 12:17:02 PM »
Riverview Sales in East Windsor, CT, was ordered to pull all of their firearms from the shelves and has been under BATFE audit for over two months.  They're still allowed to sell ammo and accessories, but the FFL has been suspended.  Nobody knows if they're going to recover from the loss of business.

They're not discussing the reason, which is understandable.  Some have speculated on some connection to Sandy Hook, but given the distance and circumstances I don't think that's it.  My guess would be that somebody fudged a 4473 and tried to sell to a prohibited person.

I had no particular love for that shop.  They had a pushy, blowhard salesman there who made ridiculous claims like the 10/22 was used to kill guard dogs in Vietnam, etc, and they seemed hard pressed to offer over $200 in trade for anything from a S&W Model 10 to an H&K USP.  I quit going there for any serious reason and only stop by occasionally as my preferred barber shop is next to it.  However, I certainly don't think they should be driven out of business.

Generally when you attract an ATF audit like that and it doesnt involve a theft, the store was knowingly involved in something rotten.

In my experience, silence for this long is often ended with an indictment...

Boomhauer, I'd be wary of over-generalizations.  Look at this guy's current predicament:

At least one news report immediately following the shooting indicated that Nancy Lanza bought one (or more) of the firearms her kid took to the school at that shop. It sticks in my mind because I remember enough about Connecticut geography to know that there MUST be fifty gun shops closer to where she lived than that one, so I wondered why she would travel that far to buy a gun.

So they are allowed to sell ammo? I don't think that's worth much, given that there isn't any ammo to be sold ... anywhere. I just spent half a day driving from one gun shop to another, just looking for a couple of boxes of 9mm JHP ammo.

NOTHING!

and that case is still real fresh

Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

They got audited due to many many guns being stolen. Including a .50 Rifle. I  believe it was either a current or ex employe.  He just picked up an AR and walked out. News showed the surveillance tape.

During the initial audit they discovered over a dozen guns missing that they could not account for.

Either they are providing guns to a criminal orginization or somebody has been robbing them blind and the owners bookkeeping is so poor he didn't even notice it.

Wow, thanks for the info!  I guess there's going to be some extra retail space available in East Windsor soon.

Crappy situation. And if they were providing to criminals I would think they would have had the presence of mind to fudge the books somehow.

I thought I saw a story awhile back about this place getting robbed.  To include a guy grabbing an AR and boogieing down the street until he was confronted by a couple employees.

Yep, here it is:

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2012/12/20/apparent-atf-raid-reportedly-underway-at-gun-shop-where-ct-shooters-mother-bought-gun-used-in-massacre/

About 2/3rd's of the way down.

Ahh yes, I remember this one now.  I made fun of the reporter who stated that the store didn't know he had stolen the gun despite the fact that store employees chased him down and he confronted them with a knife to escape.
