Bloomberg at it again
« on: March 21, 2013, 11:07:20 AM »
I imagine most folks here have already heard this. For those who haven't, enjoy

Three days ago Mayor Bloomberg called for legislation to require stores to conceal tobacco products. Tobacco products such as cigarettes would have to be kept in cabinets, drawers, under the counter, behind a curtain or in any other concealed location.

Has this mother-jumper considered what the effect would be on businesses, especially convenience stores? They'd have the expense of having to stock cigarettes, but have a much harder time selling them. Most would probably stop selling cigarettes, which of course is Bloomberg's goal.

Except for the part about gassing Kurds and torture, I suspect that Saddam Hussein was a more benevolent dictator. Of course, we don't know if Bloomberg tortures smokers, soda drinkers or cigarette retailers.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. -C.S. Lewis
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

I don't even think this is being exercise for the good of the victims. I think it's his monstrous ego.

He's mad his soda thing failed. I'm betting he's figuring that people hate smokers more then they hate fatties, so this might actually stick.

I think God invented Bloomberg to push me over the edge that people like Feinstein & Schumer originally pushed me to. [tinfoil]

Wring title. Should be:

Bloomberg still at it again

Again implies he stopped for a moment.

Should I ever win a stupidly huge lottery / invent something that makes me filthy rich,   Being a pain in his ass will become my new hobby.

When I smoked two packs of Marlboros a day, I could drink a quart of real coke, three times a day, and not gain an ounce.  He's misguided.

This is why Bloomberg should be promoting the "big gulp" rather than banning it:

Be careful that the toes you step on now aren't connected to the ass you have to kiss later.
