Best websites: tying paracord, loops, lanyards...
« on: July 29, 2006, 12:21:57 PM »
Hello,

Anybody got a good link or two to sites that will help educate me as to tying paracord handles for knives, various knots, lanyards, loops and so on?

I've seen some great ones in the past, but can't seem to find them now that I really need 'em.

Thanks in advance,
Fig

Thanks guys!

Cosine, yours was the great one I had recalled, just couldn't remember where it was.

What a great resource we have in our collective syndicate here!

Thanks again!

Spin180,

In your link refereced here: http://runningdogknife.homestead.com/cordwrap.html , the green cord is definitely not any kind of paracord that I'M familiar with.

Any idea what it is?  Doesn't make reference (that I could find) in the link.

Fig

I'm not Spin, but it looks like plain old colored cord that you would find at the craft store. Available in different colors and thicknesses IIRC.

AFAIK, garrettwc's right.  I don't really know what the specific name for it might be

It's just a simple, thin nylon-type braided cord.  I've found it in various forms and qualities, often packaged with outdoorsy type equipment.  In fact, I have a rather generic stopwatch on the desk here that has a neck lanyard of similar consistency.

Come to think of it, I believe the local Mega-Lo Mart has packages of it in the hardware dept. along with their light-duty chains, links, clasps and such.

I used that 1st stage (with the green rope) on the Running dog Knife site, to wrap the handle of a home-made bokken. Found it in a book on Japanese hand tools. Apparently it was used to bind the two halves of tool handles together, using string or copper wire. I used string for my bokken and it took forever, but it did work very well -- didn't have to tape it or anything! Shame I didn't take as much care with the rest of the bokken really... Sad

Cool links, Spin! That guy "Stormdrane" on Cosine's thread put a lot of good links up too.
