"Manatee Grey"

In petite sizes, it's "Dark Heather Grey."  In plus sizes, "Manatee Grey."

lulz.

Where do you suppose the re-labeling of the color came from?

. . . Where do you suppose the re-labeling of the color came from?
From someone who thought "Whale Gray" was already trademarked?

"Angus Black" and "Pachyderm Gray" are also off the list.

Heather Grey sounds like a character in a Jane Austen novel  =|

Been mulling on it, and I could pretty easily see Manatee Grey as a character in a Jane Austen novel.

Competing things won't leave my head. First, 50 shades of manatee grey. Then of course Target's ill-thought initial response, "Oh the huge manatee!"

It's just an unfortunate inventory thing.

Someone’s idea of a mean joke? Absolutely not, says Target spokesman Joshua Thomas.

He points out that “Manatee Gray” is a color found on many products across a range of categories on the Target website, some of them in women’s regular and even petite sizes.

In this case, he says, there were two different teams of buyers responsible for the “missy” and plus-size product lines, and the teams didn’t coordinate when they inputted the product information for the site. One team apparently used the color’s official name, while the other eyeballed it.

I really do not see what all the fuss is.  The first Europeans to see manatees  (Manatae?  Manatii?) thought they were the mermaids of legend.

But then, they had been at sea with bad food and worse water for months when they reached the rivers where the manatees (manatae? manatii?) swam.  They probably should be forgiven for the lowering of what were already pretty low standards.

stay safe.

I quibble only with your neglecting to mention the presence, or absence, of a rum ration and it's impact on the scenario.

I suppose calling a large dark dress Orca Black, is also out of the question?

What did they want? Hippo grey? Elephant grey? I mean, if you're plus-sized, maybe dressing in the same color preferred by chubby mammals is just not a wise decision for you.

Take it out of the realm of animal names. Call it "parachute gray".

Take it out of the realm of animal names. Call it "parachute battleship gray".

FIFY.

Although I would have preferred a more classical reference - something along the lines of simply "Omar".

Had to be done.

I only used the parachute reference because, by the time our marriage was really headed south, my ex had grown to the point where her underwear could be used as parachutes.

Jay Leno said that Target has reconsidered.

The Plus size items are now described using "Battleship Gray".

Sky-diving or cargo?

I immediately thought of the Ole & Sven story of applying for unemployment benefits because the mill was going to close.  Sven was rated to get more than Ole because he was considered to be a skilled worker - a deisel fitter.  Ole was classed as semi-skilled because all he did was stitch the size tags in the underwear.  The unemployment lady was confused, saying that a mechanic was certainly a higher-skilled job than a stitcher.  Ole told Sven to show the lady what he did at work.  Sven picked up a pair of bloomers, put them on his head, and announced ....  (QC down at the mill was never the same after that.)
