The Long Chase
by GEOFFREY A. LANDIS AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT
PUBLISHED SEPTEMBER 2010 | 4429 WORD

A quick fun read.  I've had that tab open for awhile, but only just got to reading it, so I've forgotten what sent me there in the first place.  But, in any case, near anything worth enjoying is worth sharing.  Or is that a little too collective a way of thinking...

Enjoy  =D

Nice.

The only real conceit I can find fault with was the hyperbolic sun maneuver and gravity assist to escape the Solar System. Even with current 21st century tech, the photosphere of the sun would hide nothing, presuming we were interested in watching for it.  We, or more appropriately our devices, stare directly into the sun 24/7, and either with filters or selective wavelengths have no trouble with it.

The relative scales are vastly different, but it's already attainable by skilled amateurs with terrestrial equipment. This gives the idea... http://addins.wkow.com/blogs/weather/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/iss_atlantis_2010_crop.jpg

Although, considering the author's background, I think he knows full well the "you just can't hide in space..." rules that just absolutely kill the drama of any chase, intercept, or maneuver in space if you're trying to use realistic tech and extrapolation. Something's got to give for good storytelling.

I promise not to duck.

It is not so much that you can't hide in space, it is just that you can't be invisible.
