Car wax experiment
« on: May 04, 2013, 11:33:50 PM »
My cars are daily drivers that get driven in the crappy weather of Seattle.  I like to wax them periodically for protection but am not the sort of person who is going to spend the time and effort for a show car look. For quite a few years, I have been using Klasse All In One, but I am now experimenting with something different: Meguair's M21 Synthetic Sealant 2.0.

On one car, I used Meguair's cleaner/wax on it first, then applied the sealant.  Tomorrow, on the other car, I am just going to apply the sealant.  I am going to be interested to see any difference in shine, protection and durability between the two.  The sealant is literally wipe on, wait 15 minutes, and then wipe off with a microfiber, so it is pretty easy to apply.

When do you ever find a nice day to wash your car ???

We are predicted to have a five day stretch of weather in the high 70's and low 80's!  The first such stretch of the year!

That's better than we've had so far.

I think it might have hit 70 one day but then it snowed the next day.  ;/

Let me know how the test turns out. I have similar goals as you and usually hit my cars with Nu-finish a couple times a year. I'm pretty happy with it except for the way it stains trim. I've started using meguires ultimate quik spray wax which doesn't have that problem but it almost seems like cheating. However, the proper car people at work swear by zaino quick seal, which is also a simple wipe-on product.

When I got my miata I followed the advice of the aforementioned proper car people and bought a clay bar kit. After seeing the junk that comes off on the clay, even after a thorough scrubbing with Dawn, I am now a true believer in claying cars before waxing.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

I have used Zaino for a while now, and the quick seal must be something new in the last couple of years. I use the show car stuff. I clay my car every couple of years, and then do the full on Zaino polish. It is a lot of work, but one of the nicest shines I have ever had, it even made my white Jeep shiny!

I don't know if I will use it on my bike or not, I may just stick with Meguiares polish for it.

I still love my carnauba paste wax, but its a labor of love.
