I'm wearing clown pants.
« on: May 06, 2013, 01:00:27 PM »
I've seen 222-224 on the scale the last few days, meaning I have officially lost 50lbs. Took me about 4 months or so. I've moved my belt in 6 holes so far, which includes adding two new holes to the inside.  [ar15]

I'm going to continue the diet while slowly phasing in more weightlifting/calories than there are now, then reward myself with a nice 1.75" horsehide Beltman belt when I can see my abs.  =D

Hopefully, I'll get it done before I move to Austin in Aug/Sept......

Congratulations!

Keep the old big pants so you can carry two IWBs.

For the past couple of months, I have been losing about a pound a week by following the intermittent fasting routine in the Fast Diet: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/the-fast-diet and http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/03/fashion/england-develops-a-voracious-appetite-for-a-new-diet.html?pagewanted=all

I heard about it through the NYT article and started doing it shortly thereafter.  In a nutshell, I fast on Monday and Thursday.  I eat nothing from about 1800 on Sunday/Wednesday evening until 1200 Monday/Thursday.  In order to make the calorie counting simple, I eat a can of Progesso soup (200-300 calories) at 1200 and 1800 on Monday and Thursday.  I eat normally the other days of the week.  My wife is not following this diet.

I am also on the Schwinn Airdyne 20 minutes pedaling hard 4-5 times per week.  But I was doing this before the intermittent fasting, so I am sure it contributes somewhat to the weight loss, but I was not losing weight until I started the intermittent fasting.

This is working for me, and and there is actual medical literature behind this approach.  Your mileage may vary, of course.

How did you do it? I need to lose 40 to 50 pounds, and I'm not making any prograss at all.

For the first month and a half or so, I was using an Intermittent Fasting diet like MillCreek. This was in conjunction with moderate weightlifting. My progress was pretty slow (as is to be expected with IF), and I decided I needed to see some major progress for morale purposes and pulled out the stops.

I've been eating 1000-1400 Cal/day, with a one 2or3kCal "cheat day" every 1 or 2 weeks. No soda, no sugar, no flours, no liquid calories, no starch, no soy, no nuttin.  =D Even on cheat days.

I'm not eating "low carb", but you could call it "medium carb", just enough to keep me out of keto most of the day. If you picture a random mix of hardboiled eggs, ham, turkey, (4% ;)) cottage cheese, low sodium canned tuna, McDonalds Grilled Chicken and Bacon Wraps, and steamed broccoli/cauliflower/asparagus/brussel-sprouts, that's about 90% of what I'm eating. Also, plenty of water ("half your bodyweight in ounces a day").

Then light weightlifting 2-3 times a week and a 5k run once a week on top of that.  ;)

The last 2 weeks have been slow because I've had lots of screwups while babysitting my cousins (damn kid food everywhere), but for a while there I was losing about a pound a day with a 2-3 day pause after each cheat day.

EDIT: I keep track of it all with MyFitnessPal on my iPhone. Nearly all my screwups happen when I don't log the food FIRST, before I eat it.

I'm trying the My Fitness Pal site and app now.  Goal of 1.5 lbs per week.  Doc says my foot, ankle, and knee problems are due to weight, and gout caused by poor conditionn and weight.  I'm trying pure portion control as opposed to modifying the diet totally.  And exercise.  Walking daily for a couple of weeks while I adjust to the gout  meds.

Goal is to run a 5k with my son in  the fall.

The Couch to 5k program was what I used to get up to 5k, excellent stuff. My favorite implementation in the appstore was "Get Running." It's always nice having a sweet sounding British lady bossing you around.
