I'm glad ammo prices are coming down...

Because I'm not so sure I'd want to know what a box of Remington .25-20 would cost during the panic.  :O

25-20 is always expensive.  32-20 was roughly $40-$60/box before the panic and at that time 25-20 cost even more (when you can find it).  Low volume and "obsolete" cartridges are that way.

Edit to add: Something isn't right with that page.  25-20 is generally sold 50/box, but the ad says 20/box.

Yeah, I knew it was a boutique/ancient round, and usually sold in boxes of 50.

Hence my wonderment at the price per 20.

I catch those errors in the Natchez email flyers from time to time, though.

I read it as 25-06 at first and  :O because I just saw 25-06 at Sportsmans Warehouse for $25ish.

It's an incorrect product description.

Remington doesn't load CoreLokt bullets in .25-20. It would be ludicrous given the round's low velocity.

I've got a .25-20 and a .32-20. I reload both for a reason...

Here's Midway's ad for Remington .25-20.

As far as I know, that is the ONLY type of .25-20 Remington has offered in the past 30 years.

Well, if you have an early Winchester Model 1885 Low-Wall rifle, for example.

There were a lot of cartridges in the .25 caliber family of similar performance, spanning the black powder to smokeless transition.

Some folks call them "rook" cartridges, intended for potting critters at no more than 100 yards.  Examples include .25-20, .25-35, etc.

I even have a box of original .25-25 ammo, and it's kinda neat looking.

What do you use it for?

Makes a decent short range small game/coyote round.

Someone used it to take a record white tail buck back in 1914 (a record which apparently stood for over 50 years) but it's generally not recommended for deer.

My father has a Winchester Model 1892 in .25-20. It isn't used much, though, due to the somewhat expensive cartridges.

I've got 3 cartridges that look like that.  They're "22-15-60 Stevens".

Here's a linky to a write up and pic, of how I happened upon them and some other weird obscure old cartridges:  http://illinoiscarry.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=26683.

I thought the low wall was chambered primarily for the .25-20 single shot, which was much longer than the .25-20.

Could be, Mike.

I know of one early octagon barrel Low-Wall that's chambered for the bottleneck .25-20.

A friend had recently discovered it in her late father's attic, along with 2 boxes of ancient ammo.

I'm trying to talk her out of it.  I'm not seeing much luck, so far.   ;)

The reason the.25-20 was developed for the 1892 lever action was the popularity of the single shot version.
