The President takes executive action to end patent trolls

I am in favor of the President and Congress taking action to stop the patent trolls.  I have encountered this a couple of times in healthcare over such things as a patient assessment scale.

Here is one: http://www.forbes.com/sites/nathanvardi/2013/06/04/president-obama-wallops-the-patent-trolls/

"Five executive orders and seven recommendations to lawmakers"

Wouldn't it be nice if sites that claim to be news sources actually then provided the information directly or otherwise linked to it?

I've given up after 5 different sites.  As always, devil is in the details... be nice if someone shared them.

Why do I feel there is another shoe somewhere, ready to drop at just the right time to render this useless for its titled purpose and instead useful for some kind of massive chicanery?

I seem to have mislaid my shiny metal headgear.

Ned Hamford, thanks for that link, but it assumed antecedent knowldge not possessed by the reader.

This helped somewhat;

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patent_troll

The original citation of the WSJ article kinda miffed me because of the subscription requirement.  Is that a new practice of the WSJ (and perhaps others)?

I can understand publishers getting ticked at wholesale copying of their stuff on the net, but isn't there another way of handling copy-and-paste posters?

Its the new business model for news content creators. WSJ will make 1/3 articles free, and the other 2/3 behind a pay wall.

Basically, paper circulation is dropping so fast it will disappear. And online adds don't make enough revenue. So this is the next strategy to maintain a viable news business.

Oh.  And I guess the 1/3 free ones will be nothing but commercial self-serving press releases.

For immediate release.

In a statement released today, <name> of the <company> said that according to recent studies, <company's> product showed superior <qualities>.

"Our company has always strived to produce the most economical and durable <product>," Mr. <name> said at the <product con> held at the Convention Center.

I guess it is one of those unanswered questions:  Are newspapers dwinding because of progress or because they are not worth reading?

230RN, I'm shocked they can't make ends meet off of a 100% digital delivery system.

No paper routes, no paper costs, no gigantic printing presses that need to produce millions of pages of print every day in a short window.

Instead, a handful of high availability web servers and a reasonable backbone link to the innernetz.  Child's play in comparison to all the drama of the old fashioned print facility.  A fraction of the cost.

Before I started paying for WSJ, I found the free articles to be interesting, well written. Its what got me to buy the subscription. I dunno, I think it would be smart to make the free ones good enough to be linked by other aggregators to help drive free advertising.
YMMV

Certain industries (mostly on the west coast) seem to be doing very well with that business model  ;)
