Hey, we might get someone who is anti-freedom but lazy and bad at it. Lautenberg was a vociferous advocate for destroying the Constitution, if his replacement is less strident we still win to the small degree possible in a place like New Jersey.

And with any luck Christie will pick someone horrific enough to tank his chances at a POTUS run in 2016. Given the GOP's history of loving big .gov NE liberals with an R in front of their name I view him as one of the biggest threats in the party right now. He's like a louder, fatter John McCain.

From the thread title, I was thinking "Oh God, passed what?"

There are other usages of "pass".  Ex. "pass gas", "pass a stone", "pass stool".

While I wish no ill on any man, I do heartily approve of the development.

Unfortunatley any legislation he had pending will likely get a strong "in memory of" vote no matter how crappy it is.

Lautenberg and christy butted heads on quite a bit of stuff.
I don't know who he will pick, but most likely someone that will more align with his budget cutting ideas.
Don't get me wrong Christie is still the best gov NJ has had since I've been alive. But I don't trust him on a few things.
I just hope he tries to stay fairly republican to not hurt his attempts at prez. He is rerunning for gov and he stands a very good chance of being reelected, unless someone spectacular comes out of the wood work. (doubtful)
I needed a mod to change my signature because the concept of "family friendly" eludes me.
Just noticed that a mod changed my signature. How long ago was that?

Christy may hold a special election (which would probably return the seat to the D's) but then he's in trouble with the GOP.

Or he may appoint a Republican, but they'd have to run again in 18 months, probably against Booker, who'd probably win, seeing as there are 700k more D's than R's in Jersey. Still, that would be one more R for 18 months. But if he does that, the D's may sue. (Paper didn't detail the basis for the suit, but with Jersey, election laws are more like election suggestions anyway, judging by the way they ran things to return Lautenberg to office some years back.)

Meh.

NJ wanted a Democrat in the Senate.  I'm not too worked up over NJ getting to vote for their replacement feudal lord Senator rather than having it dictated by their Governor.

And, hopefully, this DOES sink Christie on the national level.  He's got the taint of compromise, and reaching across the aisle, stuck to his lard-arse.  He's a Statist GOP from a mobster state.  Do you REALLY want him having more play at the national level?

This is a win for conservatives since Christie gets knocked down a peg in GOP circles.
This is a win for NJ, because they want a Democrat senator.

Yeah.  It isn't a good thing, but it will more accurately represent the desires of the NJ people.  Not that the Senate was intended to be decided based on popular vote, but whatever.

Now, running the special election a few weeks before the regular election ... that's the wrong decision.
