are we done fiddling abroad yet?
« on: June 13, 2013, 09:01:34 PM »
Remember those surian rebels McCain met with a couple weeks ago?

They have allied with al Qaida.

And we are still going to arm them and whatnot.

Washington was right.  And Paul too.
"But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain - that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it. In either case, it is unfit to exist."

We have supported unseating dictators less awful than the fundy mohammedians who replaced them, but sat on our hands when the most hostile regime toward us could possibly have been toppled by less hostile folks.

To say our foreign policy is in the hands of fools is an insult to fools.

So the masked dude with the PKM and the RPG on drudge right now...

Is that a suicide vest, or is he captain falafel?  I'm having a real hard time figuring it out.

Oh, and Bad Idea(tm).  Hitting chemical dumps with tomahawks, cool.  Knocking out SAM sites to keep the Israelis from freaking out about Soviet air defense systems and glassing Damascus...  I mean, I don't care, but I'm sure there's a downside to nuclear war I'm not considering, so OK.

US assets "protecting" Future-Jihadis-Of-Al-Mafraq summer camps? No.

I can't see any possible way this could go wrong or end badly.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Worst case scenario- WWIII
Best case scenario- US takes in 1 Million+ refugees who are sympathetic to Al Queada.

I'd like to register my choice:  WW3.
We might -- just might, develop the gonads to actually FIGHT THAT war.

But . . . which side would our current C-in-C order our troops to fight on?

  • I spent a week in that town one night....
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

I just hope if we do it (which I don't want to do), we are at least not hampered by a ridiculous ROE/EOF that gets people killed and ties our hands behind our back.

Guys?

I'm a big fan of using the world's most powerful military. That said, we need Reagan on this one. Remodel head bad guy's living quarters from above just because they thought you might be kidding. Repeat as necessary on any high value military equipment if they don't get a clue. No occupation, no nation building. I know they're outdated and as likely to come back as Firefly, but 70% of the world's population does live in the reach of an Iowa BB. If you're gonna do gunboat diplomacy, have the biggest gunboat.
