Riding his modified turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa, Warner previously hit 311 mph on the same course in 2011, using 1.5 miles of pavement. That's considered to be the world land speed record for a conventional motorcycle, Kelly said.

The bike was probably modified with a fairing big enough so that his balls din't cause wind drag.

One of the rider coaches in my BRC was a friend of the decedent, and also goes to Bonneville his own self to do these sorts of things.  Said coach teaches kids to fly Apache helicopters for a living.  Yep, thrill-seekers are a different breed of cat, no doubt.

It sounds like he crashed last year at the Texas Mile. Those 'Busas can make some ungodly power. I know a guy in Montana that was able to get 700hp out of one of them. And that was in 2005, who knows what they are doing these days, I haven't kept track. :O

I've read that there's a small cottage industry adapting Hayabusa motors to Smart cars, making those itty bittly little things the ultimate "sleeper" vehicles.

At least he died the way he lived. With a motorcycle in his heart.

Er, too soon?

The Limestone Police Department and Maine State Police were investigation the crash.
My guess would be speeding had something to do with it.

I don't think it was the speed that killed him.

It was the sudden stop.

I think his stop was prolonged.  =D

Article I read said 2000 ft from the turn to leaving the runway. Should've been plenty of room to stop. Maybe health issue (heart attack) or brake failure? Linked brakes on something like that?

A lot can go wrong at those speeds. At even 150, a minor pavement imperfection can introduce head shake . If suspension isn't adjusted properly, that head shake can get worse leading to loss of control. Bummer about it is, braking during head shake makes it worse
