Your favorite shotgun butt cuff?
« on: July 17, 2013, 12:11:33 AM »
Looking to add some shells on the gun for my little SxS 12ga. I've heard good things about Ace Case's version but wanted to know if anyone had any other favorites?

Tried, don't like.  Ruins the ambidextrous capabilities of the gun.

I'm left handed and shoot it left handed most of the time, but the corner just outside my bedroom down my main hallway is a right-hand turn.

As such I run side-saddles, but I'm running a Stevens clone of the Ithaca and have left and right saddles since it ejects out the bottom.  Don't have any SxS or O/U scatterguns.

Defensive use, or hunting only?

If hunting, I've tried the Uncle Mike's elastic sidesaddle and I liked it well enough strong-side-only, even though it was intended as a right handed installation and I rotated it around the gun for a wonky lefty install.  I took it off when I realized I didn't like the effect of 12ga shells on my cheek during recoil.

Defensive. I'm pretty strongly RH dominant, and I figure the chances that my right side will be disabled but I'll still be in shape to use a shotgun are much lower than the chances I'll need a fast reload. In my use case anyway.

Shotgun cards stuck on with velcro, soft side on the gun. Rip them off if they are in the way, carry a spare in your pocket to slap on.

I went to them instead of Sidesaddles and butt cuffs.

I've tried cuffs on shotguns and rifles, don't like them, always seem to get in the way when you need to rapidly mount your firearm. Granted almost all of my long guns have some sort of hunting purpose but I have found that a hunting vest with from shell pockets makes for a vey easy way to carry shot shells and have quick access to them.
