1st track day
« on: August 15, 2006, 03:31:15 PM »
Went to Summit Point in WV yesterday.  Unfortunately, I wasn't riding but I did get to take some pictures and work on my technique for Monaco next year.  It was a pretty cool track and it was a beautiful day.  Here are some of the pics I took.

That's my buddy Chris at the back, going into the Carousel turn

My buddy Tom going past the Start/Finish line at roughly 140MPH

One of my favorite bikes of the day

The unluckiest bike of the day.  There were a few crashes during the day but this bike was the worst off of the bunch

Check out the rear wheel on that bike.  FUBAR'd
Oh, Lord, please let me be as sanctimonious and self-righteous as those around me, so that I may fit in.

That track used to have the nick name "Slippery point". Does that still apply? Also, Ican't tell if the concrete pads are still in the corners, are they?

I used to do a lot of track riding, took a couple classes (STAR, CLASS) and well, you can learn more on a track in about 4 hours than in YEARS of street riding.
I always found the atmosphere to be great (and i was NOT the fast guy, let me tell you)

AT one class, we had some guys with real fancy aprillia's and tire warmers and the whole bit and on the very first warm up lap (You know, when you go slow, get a feel for the track warm up your tires, etc) tossed them both down the track
done for the day, not allowed to rejoin
stupid stupid stupid
it was a lesson beat into our heads the rest of the day.

If you have a chance to go to a track day, take it.

The concrete patches are still there.  Didn't hear anything about it being slippery, though.  There was only 1 Aprilia and that guy was in the Advanced group.  I did see a few nice Ducatis in the Beginner group, though.  It was definitely fun and I plan on riding, myself, sometime soon.

I looked at your photos.  They are great.

However, I do have a question:  Do you east coast flatlanders ever lean over?

That's actually true out here in the midwest! People out here take turns on both sportbike and crusier in the most squidly fashion possible!

Well, the guys in the fist pic are in a slow turn, so there's no need to lean it all the way over.  The guy on the orange bike was in a quick left hander with no time to lean it all the way over.  My buddy was flying down the straight.  I never did get to the tower where I could have gotten pics of anybody dragging their knees.  My buddy, however, did burn through one set of knee sliders and start a second pair.
