Merely having served in the SS at that age and at that stage of the war doesnt negate the next 60 years of his life. Whether someone likes what he wrote or doesnt, this news is irrelevant.

I agree, but it is news. Cynically, he has an autobiography coming out, but I'm sure this is receiving media attention for bigger reasons than that.

Wouldnt surprise me a bit that he is back in the news just ahead of an autobiography. I tend to assume that anyone alive during that era was either Wehrmacht, SS, or Hitlerjugend. And I wouldnt hold it against them either.
