Perzactly why I carry a .45 when riding. I had cattle the other day that took umbrage at my presence. Fortunately, revving the engine of my XR scared 'em backwards. If not, the next noise would have been .45 rounds into the hillside. Most animals know enough to get away from that noise.

However, if I ran into that situation with a javelina or similar non-property animal, I'd likely just put it down. Especially if it charged my bike and knocked me over, then hovered nearby. That ain't a safe animal to have out in the countryside for others to encounter. I'd put down a cow that charged me too, if I couldn't evade it. A $1000 free-range cow on public land is no reason to play with my own safety.

When out in the field in Germany we'd have wild boars.

I remember getting a call because a momma pig was ramming the lead vehicle of a Field Artillery Battalion convoy out on the Baumholder MTA, and Range Control wasn't responding and then needed the MPs with live ammo to come out and shoot the damn thing, so they could get to their firing points. Sadly, we couldn't, but Range Control finally woke up and came on chase them off.

Lots of story of soldiers scrambling to get up trees and/or into vehicles when a herd of wild boars would come through.

One little slip and it could get bad. Those horns look dangerous. There was a guy killed by a goat in Olympic National Park a couple of years ago-it chased him and gored him in the leg-pierced an artery and he bled out.

Former GF and I came off a section of the Appalachian Trail once and walked into the nearby town. The route took us past a small farm, and as we went by we were accosted by a gaggle of attack geese. It's funny looking back on it now, but those geese were nasty critters.

Those little monsters are fast, too!

We had a stray at the house several years ago, and he beat the Golden Retriever three times racing around the house - in the snow, no less.
The goat jumped on a table on the deck, and the chase was over.

Yeah, honkin' and then comin' at ya head down and wings out a-flappin' and they look like they're 400 lbs and comin' at ya about 100 miles per hour and their beaks could engulf a Volkswagen.

Most of the time they'll stop short and raise their heads, still honkin, and drop their wings down low.

Every once in a while if a stange car came into the turnaround we'd have to go out and rescue the visitor. Who had usually jumped back in his/her car.
