This might be interesting, especially for those involved in the evolution thread a while back:  http://news.yahoo.com/s/space/20060810/sc_space/uslagsworldingraspofgeneticsandacceptanceofevolution

The US also lags the world in acceptance of socialism, global warming, and the United Nations.

Disagreeing with the "world" opinion doesn't mean you're wrong.

Given that the researchers only surveyed 23% of the worlds' countries, and those countries were overwhelmingly European, it would appear that the title of this article is somewhat misleading.

I like how "the world" includes only countries that are populated by white people. Further evidence of how the Europeans really feel about things.

Yeah, there are a few.

That's one of the things I always think about whenever I hear about the US being the worst in this or that, lagging or whatever, 'in the world'.

99% of the time, 'The World' ends up being North America, Europe, Japan, and Australia.

Why is this so important really?

I mean, why are Europeans (and their American leftist cousins) so obsessed with the teaching of evolution or lack of it?

Because religion is the opiate of the masses and mankind will never be truly free until he has shed all the superstitions of antiquity.  Belief in a God leads to thoughts of higher callings and obedience to authorities other than the State and your fellow man, which cannot be allowed for your own good.

It's straight humanist doctrine, just add political/economic dressing of your own choice.
