I went out and tried to take a look. I think I saw it, but it was a bit hard to tell if it was the nova or some other star; there are a lot of fairly dim stars in that area. The waxing gibbous moon really doesn't help...

This is a good program to help you get your bearings.  It's free!  It gives you a real time moving night sky, by putting in your city or coordinates. Put it on your laptop and you can go outside to find everything.
