The stars at night are big and bright
« on: October 19, 2013, 03:51:12 PM »
DEEP IN THE HEAAAART OF NOT NORTHERN VIRGINIIIIAAAAAAAAA

Moving to TX.

No idea what I'm gonna do about lodging. Plan so far is to rent out this house, get out there and start looking.

Anyone in the Dallas (Irving, specifically) area have a room available while I find a place for my family?

The gig: working at the big Microsoft campus there in Las Colinas doing Sharepoint work.

More money than I make now. Not the DC area. Win win

I would say you need to hurry, but the State Fair of Texas is over tomorrow, so there is no need to rush now. Put it on your calendar for next year.

Congratulations on the new job, place to live, etc.

Can't help with a place to live, sorry, the last time I looked at moving there, the property taxes scared me away. ;)

In the immortal words of Davy Crockett: "Y'all can go to hell, I'm going to Texas."
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Remember, you go west till you smell it and then south till you step in it.

We've got a guest room.  A possible problem for you is that we're approx. 60 (+/- 10mi) miles east of Irving.

That's what, 2 days drive in morning traffic?

On a normal day.  If there's a traffic problem....

We think we found an apartment. We have moving services scheduled with ABF Upack.

Waiting on an offer letter. The money guy was out sick. He will sign it when he gets back in. We are , of course, waiting to put down deposits and spend money until the offer letter arrives.

You can find some nice places to live that won't break the bank in that area.  The older part of Irving near downtown has been gentrified, too.

No room at the inn, here, but I live far enough away that it would be no favor.  Unless you worked odd hours.  DFW freeways at 0200 are wonderful.

I think the apartment is gonna be fine. Mostly i'm just glad to be getting the hell out of working for the federal government

Just to be correct, this is the State Song.  We sing the first verse and chorus at A&M football games when the Texas Flag is raised.
Quote
"Texas, Our Texas"

Texas, Our Texas! all hail the mighty State!
Texas, Our Texas! so wonderful so great!
Boldest and grandest, withstanding ev'ry test
O Empire wide and glorious, you stand supremely blest.
(chorus)

Texas, O Texas! your freeborn single star,
Sends out its radiance to nations near and far,
Emblem of Freedom! it set our hearts aglow,
With thoughts of San Jacinto and glorious Alamo.
(chorus)

Texas, dear Texas! from tyrant grip now free,
Shines forth in splendor, your star of destiny!
Mother of heroes, we come your children true,
Proclaiming our allegiance, our faith, our love for you.

Chorus

God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.
God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.
Those early Texans had their priorities straight.   =D
