Philadelphia First City to Ban 3D Printed Guns
« on: November 26, 2013, 06:39:00 PM »
Because saying "we forbid it" always stops criminals in their tracks.

I like how the councilman moved forward after conferring with his 14 year old nephew.

“At first I kind of brushed it off,” Johnson said. “Then later I understood the seriousness of the problem.

U.S. State Department officials demanded that the blueprint to build a 3D gun known as the Liberator be removed in May, but the plans had already been downloaded more than 100,000 times. Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., is also seeking an extension on a federal law banning undetectable guns before it expires on Dec. 9.

I'm pretty sure you still don't understand the seriousness of your problem councilman.

In a preemptive move designed to get ahead of creative criminals, the Philadelphia City Council voted unanimously last week to prohibit the use of 3D printers to create any firearm or “any piece thereof” unless that person possesses a license to manufacture firearms.

Ripe for 1A challenge and massive squashing.

You don't need a license to make grip panels for your 1911/Beretta/Sig/whatever out of a piece of wood you have lying around... or to make a mold or cast and make them out of silver.  But programming them into a 3d printer and constructing them is illegal?

How dumb can people get? The entire concept... even the name "Liberator" is about circumventing the usual prohibition strategies and making teh stoopid laws irrelevant. But nooooooo that won't stop useless meat sacks from legislating away.

I have the plans on my home 'puter... Molon Labe?

Now I really want a 3D printer. I’d spend all day doing nothing but printing guns, then shipping  them anonymously to various nanny-staters and media outlets in bulk.
I promise not to duck.

Doesn't PA have preemption?   So doesn't that make this null and void?
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

Yes. Yes.

Philly does this on a regular basis. If you want a quick $50k settlement, go get busted in Philly while following the Uniform Firearms Act.

Why don't they just ban murder and robbery, etc  ???

Because:

"Did you know that the first Matrix was designed to be a perfect human world, where none suffered, where everyone would be happy? It was a disaster. No one would accept the program, entire crops were lost. Some believed we lacked the programming language to describe your perfect world, but I believe that, as a species, human beings define their reality through misery and suffering. The perfect world was a dream that your primitive cerebrum kept trying to wake up from. Which is why the Matrix was redesigned to this, the peak of your civilization."

So yeah, it's not that banning bad things out of the blue won't work, it's just that other issue  ;)
