This will either be completely lame or hilarious just like damn you autocorrect let's see how well your phone does.

It would see mine is doing pretty well here unfortunetly. Nothing funny like ass monkeys warble garble burtle mobile for work a box or a little bit.

how do we tell the difference between auto correct on the phone and someone with a speech impediment

My phone just makes and receives calls.

It's been almost thirty years since I messed with speech recognition software. I'm not sure it has gotten much better. Maybe we have just became that much worse.

My phone doesn't have speech recognition, but my tablet does. Android for the win. Surprisingly good too.
4 score and 7 years ago what time is it I'm just testing out the new nation conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men created equal know when you're in case a great so what to do with of the nation or some of the nation I give up. My phone does not like the gettysburg address.

You're taking "speech recognition" too literally

I have a feeling dad's birthday (phone) to get use (weird I don't know where that came from...) this function is gonna get you (used) a lot but will see how it goes. so far it seems to get them (some) weird stuff picked up on the microphone.

Is speech recognition that annoying button I always hit by accident, but when I try to use it for APS, I simply can't find a button for it? The one time I actually want to use it? (I did try it once for text messaging. It comprehended my English about as well as any other speech rec. program - it didn't.)

Festival I don't know about your phone but on my android phone I have a microphone button on my keyboard that I can press whenever I want to do text to speech.

I just started playing around with it on Win7 with an el cheapo microphone --not using it now, but what a mess when I do. Stuff reads like a translation from a Japanese you-assemble-it toy manual.

I guess I'd better take the tutorial.

Dammit, why do they (MS) fill the screen with a nice picture of a nice lady, and the important actual tutorial stuff is in small, non-contrasty font in a small little window waaaayyy off in the right corner of the screen? I guess MS is more interested in "artsy-fartsy" screens than practical ergonomics. "User-friendly" my sweet young soft pink arse.

Geez, I just noticed this thread is from 2011. Talk about zombie threads!

I'm gonna give the MS speech recognition a good chance, but does anyone have any recommendations for freeware (or paid for) speech recognition software?

(Now using finger recognition software): Tried again ^. The only thing it got right on SR (Speech Recognition) was the "Good Morning." This, on a brand new microphone as opposed to the built-in one, and using Wordpad instead of Notepad to transcribe voice. "Hardware" is what it thinks I said when I said "paragraph." The sequence of "A"s above was light taps on the microphone.

You know, like the tap-tap-tap "Hello? Is this thing on?" you hear at every big dinner function.

Then, the inevitable, illogical, "Can everyone hear me?"

HP G72 64 bit, Win 7 Home Premium, built-in SR software from Microsoft.

Maybe I ought to go through the tutorial... ya think?

Well, I'm willing to give this a try. But, truly, I have been very impressed 5 speech recognition on my phone. Ah, I see that it's thought I said 5 instead of Pi. Well, I suppose that being unable to recognize one word out of the many others in this post is fairly impressive. One last try, bye. And, close enough.

Back to finger-recognition: It would appear that youse guys' phones are much better at it than my hotshot super duper MS-built voice transcription software on my hotshot sub-super HP computer. I must be doing something wrong.

No, I still haven't gone through their tutorial.

Are youse guys using downloaded software from external sources, or built-in functions?

I haven't used voice recognition on my phone yet, maybe I'll try it later....

A friend of mine sent me a 'grammar lesson' after I sent him a text the other night, I wonder which this would turn out using voice input?

Similarlness happened to me. Somehow it interpreted something I said (whole? hall?) as "all" so I said "select all" and "delete."
