I might have to get me a Beretta
« on: January 30, 2014, 08:16:30 AM »
Since they've decided to build a plant in Gallatin, just north Our Fair City, instead of up in Maryland.  I don't especially want one though.  I've always liked the idea of their 9mm carbine, but I can't justify the cost.

You'll have time to save up, as they will not be turning out product immediately.

Which, BTW, is why they are om my plus-list.  It takes guts to tell the stockholders that there will be a pause in the profit stream.

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

Hey you kids!! Get off my lawn!!!

They keep making this eternal vigilance thing harder and harder.  Protecting the 2nd amendment is like playing PACMAN - there's no pause button so you can go to the bathroom.

That's okay.  I can wait.

By coincidence, El Presidente is in town today.  I hear he's going to be talking about job creation and gun control among other things.  Somehow I doubt he'll mention the 300 new manufacturing jobs coming to Middle TN because of the new Beretta facility.

Well, Beretta is fortunate in that the "stockholders" are all family members:

Beretta is the oldest family-owned company in the world, operating since 1526 in Italy. Beretta makes a variety of firearms, ranging from hunting shotguns to the U.S. Armed Forces M-9 pistol.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

(Of note, it isn't the oldest family owned company, despite the claim in that article. It is likely the oldest family owned corporation, but I remember an interview with one of the Berettas who talked about the older family-owned companies, including an inn in Japan owned by the same family for over 1000 years.)

Oh, hey, look at that. The FIVE oldest family owned companies in the world are all Japanese. (I just noticed they aren't all Family owned. The Nisiyama Onsen Keiunkan is, however.)

Huh, surprising how many hotel/inn/bar/brewery/ restaurant type businesses are on that list.

Not so surprising when I think about it.  So many other businesses have been made obsolete over the years, but there's always demand for restaurants, hotels, bars & booze.  I did a quick sort of the page and was not surprised to see Japan way out ahead of everyone for total number of businesses open over such a long period of time.

China likely would have more were it not for the "improvements" Mao installed

Isolate yourself for a few hundred years while avoiding that whole invading armies tromping hither and yon, plagues, and political turmoil and quite a few businesses can last several centuries.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

I no longer have a 92, but I've owned several.  Trading fever always got the best of me.  I always liked them, and figured I'd pick up another some day.

If I never got around to getting an autoshucker shotgun, there's a good chance it'd be a Beretta.
