Well that was fun...
« on: May 25, 2014, 09:16:35 PM »
Spent the afternoon prepping our stamped concrete patio for resealing.  2 passes with a pressure washer,  let it dry and it's ready for Super Diamond Clear.  Load up the sprayer, and commence work.   I finish the work,  and make a visual inspection to be sure nothing is missed.  At this point, there's maybe half a gallon left,  so I'm looking for stuff to spray.  As I'm pumping the sprayer up for one last pass,  the pressure relief valve lets go.

I'm now coated in solvent based fun.  Face, neck, arms and one leg.  FML.  I've spent about 30 min in the shower,  and with dish soap gotten most of the mess off me,  but man does that stuff suck.  Only thing that saved my eyes were the safety glasses.  That crap rolls into little globules that have to be cut off with scissors.  yuck.

So yeah,  that sucked, and I'm whining about it here,  to see if any of you folks have ever had a similar issue.

Next time try hand cleaner like Gojo or Goop.

Good advice here!

Lava soap can also sometimes help... it has grit the do some mechanical work as well as detergents.

I'm a big fan of Gojo.  Had some on my work bench.  Had.  Wife decided it was just the thing for the stable,  so no good stuff was available.

When Lava doesn't work, Boraxo powdered hand soap often will.

A belt sander or angle grinder might be an option.

Personally, I think a toluene soak would probably do the trick...  :)

Helpful bunch,  the lot of you.   :P

Missed the obvious one though,  I plan to just stick my arms in the cabinet blaster sans gloves.

Tried Xylene.  Horrible idea. Does a bang up job of removing the stuff,  at the cost of a nasty chemical burn.   I've always used the xylene to clean up tools, but never my skin.  Much pain.

Yikes, you guys are nuts to bathe your hands in those solvents!

Reminds me of some people I've seen use gasoline to clean up - fire risk aside, that crap has some benzene in it.  =(

I have a picture in my head of a really hairy guy covered with tight little chemical dingleballs that have to be shaved off.
Painfully.By either a non-sympathetic spouse or some laughing friends.

I hope that that's not you.

Then again...

Look on the bright side, you weren't naked.
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

apropos to nothing

NEVER  cook bacon naked
It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

This is how I realized that I needed to be more diligent in cleaning my kitchen cupboards.Hot airborne oil gets everywhere.

I started baking the good stuff in the oven now.BLTs can have flat slabs instead of curly, awkward slices.Very nice.

There's a reason I cook my bacon in an electric skillet with a cover if I'm cooking inside. Bacon on the grill is most excellent, though, and leaves very little cleanup.

All we need is CSD to insist that I had it coming and the cops were totally justified in sabotaging my sprayer and we can stick a fork in this thread.   =D
