i think i would've sharpened the hooks first!

as a kid, i remember trying to teach myself fly fishing with all the wrong equipment.  i ended up catching a plug right through the earlobe!  it was easiest just to cut the hook off and pass it all the way through.

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

I've only ever hooked myself with barbless hooks fly fishing.

My dog, on the other hand, a few years ago got herself tangled up in a bird's nest of fishing line, treble hooks and sinkers that some jackass had thrown in some bushes by a lake. She must have smelled the salmon eggs on them or something, walked into the brush, and came out with hooks and sinkers hanging from her chest. I cut away what I could, but she wasn't having any of it with the hook removal. I ended up taking her to the local vet, and he ended up having to knock her out so he could get to them and remove them all. Poor dog couldn't move for the next 12 hours and just kept looking at me with this, "Why are you doing this to me?" look the whole time.

i hate hearing about animals hooked. i hung a lure about 3-4 foot up in a small tree while i used the line with a bare sinker to pull a rope high in a tree so we could pull it down.  while i was doing that a kitty jumped up to swat at shiny lure  hooked himself  and was hanging by paw. poor guy let me take it out but it made me real careful.

The summer that I ran the gift store/cabins/gas pump, some folks came by with their daughter about 10 maybe, who had a fishhook in her finger.  She was sitting on the tailgate of their pickup bawling for which I didn't blame her a bit.

I grabbed a bag or two of ice out of the freezer and gave it to them, for which later the "christian" owner was a bit miffed about that I didn't charge them for it.  ;/

She was crying "can you get it out?!" and I seriously thought about pushing the barb on through after getting it more or less numb with ice, and then cutting off an end to get it out.  But I figured that the family could get all upset about it even if they gave permission, and since I was running the store then there was more liability invoked than just a helpful passer-by.

In they end they drove 45 miles to town and took her to the ER.

I can still see her eyes and hear her pleading for help  =(

Been lucky enough not to sink any hooks past the barb.  When I got into fly fishing barbless hooks were a legal requirement for most trout fishing.  Probably saved me a time or two.

Me too. Little Bernie Hillabrand swung his rod back to make a "mighty cast" and hooked me in the forearm. Just couldn't understand why he couldn't make the cast. His hook was buried in my forearm. Damn that hurt.
Personally, I do not understand how a bunch of people demanding a bigger govt can call themselves anarchist.
