Apart from the age of the cited poll and the article, I'm beginning to get a vague sense that the MSM is starting to get a little more sensitive to how slanted their coverages have been and can be.
I'm sure the editors and writers of "the news" read our gun sites and have been influenced by them.
I've noticed several instances where coverage of a firearms or civil rights (read 2A and 5A) matter that appeared in gun sites have been picked up by my local TV news outlets a couple of days later.
They know they're in strong competition with electronic internet media, so they're bound to start seeing the other side of some of these issues instead of just bandwagoning on the "politically correct" stance.
Then again, maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part.
