New Egg has a good deal on what is considered to be a good unit right now.

Rosewill Infrared Thermometer (REGD-TN439L0) for $23.99 - $8 off with promo code EMCPCHA95 = $15.99. Shipping is free.

That brings the price down to $16 with free shipping.

Wow, that is a great price.  I have a similar unit that I use for my coffee roasting, and they sure are handy for all kinds of things.

Bai'd. Never could justify one even at $30 or so. 16 is a can't lose price. And it has 5 eggs!
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

I'm going to be using it primarily to tighten up windows and the like in winter, and also to give me an idea as to when my pans are ready for cooking.

My thermometer came last night.

Like a complete and total geek I ran around the house randomly zapping all sorts of different things to see what the temperature was.

On a positive note, though, I confirmed that the insulation I added to the attic several years ago was an excellent addition. I never measured the temperature of the upstairs ceiling before I insulated, but it was hot enough that it felt like being under a broiler.

Yesterday afternoon, the temperature on all 4 walls (including one with west exposure) was about 75 degrees. Ceiling temperature was 76 degrees.
