Star Wars Rogue One vs The Deplorables
« on: November 24, 2016, 10:06:00 AM »
I couldn't decide if this was politics or just stupidity, so put it in RT.

The screenwriters for Rogue One had this to say about the movie:

Quote
Following the recent presidential election, Rogue One screenwriters Chris Weitz and Gary Whitta shared sentiments that compared the Empire to "a white supremacist (human) organization" that is "opposed by a multi-cultural group led by brave women."

Way to turn off 50% of your audience. As the linked site stated, if you're Michael Moore, you say stuff like that because it draws you an audience. If you're trying to plug an expensive mainstream movie, from the "smart business" perspective, you stay neutral and keep the fantasy struggle a fantasy struggle.

If the screenwriters hadn't opened their mouths, I could have easily made a comparison in my mind to Hillary as the Emperor, had I wished to make real world comparisons vs just enjoying the movie. By the creative team opening their mouths, they kinda sour me on the movie. Now it's going to be harder for me to relate to the heroes, because I'll constantly have that quote in the back of my mind and will be comparing them to dumbass SJWs with light sabers.

All mainstream media movies, TV and other entertainment are propaganda in the truest sense of the word.

Conservatively speaking, 80% of what they put out opposes my world view and the direction I would like to see the country head. The other 20% is at best neutral.

They're not getting my time or money any longer (except for a few exceptions).
For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

It's been several years since any theater or studio got a nickel from me. I see that trend continuing.

Do they realize, when they say stuff like this I just write them off and don't watch their stuff?

I'd rather hear from the folks behind The Hunger Games franchise. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't THG about a bunch of impoverished hicks in flyover country being lorded over by an enclaved elite? That seems to be what the election-deniers are calling for.

Yes.
It's more blatant in the books.

My 16 year old son and some of his friends have noticed this, and has running joke about being selected for the next Hunger Games.  The group of them...black, white, Hispanic, male and female, give me hope for the future.
