I want a light weight twin about 500-600 cc , 350 lbs max , 31 " seat height with around 7" suspension travel. 45hp or so. Sort of an all around bike, maybe a bit more like the enduros I grew up with, back in the day when a guy did not need to carry around a step ladder as standard equipment on the bike. a modern version of this- http://www.bikeexif.com/yankee-motorcycle
The closest you'll get with reasonable cost, good reliability, and aftermarket support is the Kawasaki KLR. From the mid 80's through '07 just about the only changes were the body panel colors, in '08 they revised the whole bike, you can't go wrong with either one. My '02 has been a solid bike.
Notice anything missing? Look closely. Closer still. That' right, there's no clutch lever. That's because the CRF1000L (as it will also be known) is equipped with a Dual Clutch Transmission.
Does seem that could be a problem when trying to manage traction or attempting to float the front over obstacles. Yes, I came up with this question after reading the comments
I'm with you...what's the point of all that torque if you can't drop it down a gear and whomp on it?
I'm not a auto trans fanboi, but you can do that. Push down button, proceed to whomping. Not that difficult.I road Polaris' pushbutton trans when it first came out on atv's, and it wasn't a big deal. You could still shift gears to your hearts content.
