Honda has come out with a new Africa Twin.  I will be very interested to see one in the flesh.

Looks pretty awesome!
Personally, I do not understand how a bunch of people demanding a bigger govt can call themselves anarchist.

Yep, that's moto-fap material for me. I remember seeing old Africa Twins in Europe and having serious cases of want. Something lighter in the 600 range would have me down at the dealer throwing money at them until the bikes arrived though.

I'm so contrarian that I didn't respond to the thread.

Honda's bogus linked braking system was bad enough; now that they are trying to shove their automatic transmission down everyone's throat I think I may have to permanently write off the brand.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

I want a light weight twin about 500-600 cc , 350 lbs max , 31 " seat height with around 7" suspension travel.  45hp or so.

Sort of an all around bike, maybe a bit more like the enduros I grew up with, back in the day when a guy did not need to carry around a step ladder as standard equipment on the bike.

Have you looked at the new Ducati Scrambler?  http://scramblerducati.com/en/bike/urban-enduro?_ga=1.238256969.838364968.1415209855

I don't think i'll be able to afford what they'll charge for a 1000cc machine, and I have no desire to own a bike with a manual transmission and the corresponding electronics.

The closest you'll get with reasonable cost, good reliability, and aftermarket support is the Kawasaki KLR. From the mid 80's through '07 just about the only changes were the body panel colors, in '08 they revised the whole bike, you can't go wrong with either one. My '02 has been a solid bike.
A plan is just a list of things that doesn't happen.
Is defenestration possible through the overton window?

It is a single, and too heavy. Even my DR650 is 50-60 lbs lighter than a klr- and the KLR is tall.

Notice anything missing? Look closely. Closer still. That' right, there's no clutch lever. That's because the CRF1000L (as it will also be known) is equipped with a Dual Clutch Transmission.

Does seem that could be a problem when trying to manage traction or attempting to float the front over obstacles. Yes, I came up with this question after reading the comments

I'm with you...what's the point of all that torque if you can't drop it down a gear and whomp on it?

Does Honda think the future is really automatic transmissions? And Why? First with the NX700, and now this. The NX700 i can kind of understand, as it was intended to be a docile road bike.

I'm not a auto trans fanboi, but you can do that. Push down button, proceed to whomping. Not that difficult.

I road Polaris' pushbutton trans when it first came out on atv's, and it wasn't a big deal. You could still shift gears to your hearts content.

Good to know. I've never seen one in the wild, nor did I know they had buttons. Is it essentially the equivalent of flappy paddles on cars?
