The Youngest State Rep in History
« on: November 05, 2014, 02:16:04 PM »
I was completely unaware of this until just now. Saira Blair, from WV, at 18, is the youngest state rep in history. Interestingly, she's being savaged by the "stop the war on women" left (she's conservative, pro-gun, anti-abortion). Ran her campaign mostly from her dorm room and got 60% of the vote.

IIRC, from the US Constitution you had to be at least 25 to be a Representative.  Is she perhaps a state representative?

Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.

Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,

Oops, sorry, yes, state rep. Fixed the title.

I believe there is also a youngest national rep (30), a first black female Republican rep, first Hatian-American rep, (same lady) a first black senator from a Southern state in [a long time], and a first Republican congresscritter from WV in [a long time]. All Republicans, I believe.

Youngest female Representative. William C. C. Claiborne, a congressman from Tennessee elected in 1797, is thought to probably be the youngest at 22. Seems he fibbed a bit about his age, which was easier to get away with back before they had birth certificates...
