The Future Is Here

Get your flying car here!  Two models - [almost] no waiting!  http://www.aeromobil.com/contact

Not quite the Jetsons http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oDaHRbIDH8 - it looks a lot more like the 1950's are making a rerun http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/news/pictures/flying-cars-in-history-picture-gallery#slide-1

Still, I'd love to see the face of the cop that pulls somebody over for trying to reach takeoff speed.  (Yes, I know we are still stuck with flying from airport to airport and then commting with all the rest of the slugs. =(  Maybe some day.)

stay safe.

If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

Hey you kids!! Get off my lawn!!!

They keep making this eternal vigilance thing harder and harder.  Protecting the 2nd amendment is like playing PACMAN - there's no pause button so you can go to the bathroom.

How is this meaningfully different from the flying car(s) Terrafugia is making?

Street and FAA legal in the US?  How much ??  And is VA buying us one each?

The lack of travel and ground clearance on the landing grear/tires concerns me.
I promise not to duck.

I really like the autorotation of the gyrocoptor. Beats even a ballistic parachute system IMO.

If you think there is a lot of car accidents now...just wait till the average idiot can fly.
I mean, seriously? Maybe if google automates the whole process.  But otherwise, it's a flight of fancy.  The same people who stop at merging lanes, text through a green light, and run red lights....flying?

Once airborne, you should have plenty of ground clearance  ;)

These would require a pilots license.  No way people like that would qualify to fly.

I was wondering how you can do a preflight check while in traffic or driving?

Strikes me that an awful lot of people have trouble handling a vehicle in only one dimension... straight ahead.

Let alone two or three.

And this is what I like most about flying cars; if you put the FAA in charge of drivers' licences, most people wouldn't be allowed to ride a tricycle.

Imagine how much safer driving would be if every other idiot is trying to fly.

Yeah, but then you would need a canopy like a Jetsons car to make sure one of the idiots doesn't crash into you.  The safest place for them to fly is over existing roads.  The other problem is all these flying cars trying to land on roads.  I thought LAX was busy when I was able to see 3 or 4 jets going in for landings ahead of my plane.

The only way flying cars would become practical is if they invented some sort of anti-grav or floating car that could move around at a fixed altitude so it would fly sort of like a blimp.  Operating an airplane with flaps and rudders would be way too complicated.

Honestly, some very unique freak weather and wind conditions aside, that most human pilots wouldn't recover from either, automation is arguably going to be better at flying soon if it isn't already in bleeding edge .mil systems. The sky is a damn big place, and it is arguably much easier than navigating a packed roadway, and we all see the progress made on that front.
