Had an interesting start.
Turns out someone forgot to mention to me that the Creatures "family" did have plans for Christmas brunch at Boar's Head.
I had already told Dad last night, since there appeared to be no plans, I would go to Richmond with him.
Poor Katie was notified when she realized I hadn't known and sent me home in a rush to change for brunch. I thought I could do both, but that was impossible and Dad was a little upset that I was going to skip (again, I haven't done Christmas in Richmond in years). So, I called Katie and changed back into non fancy clothes and Dad and I headed off.
I'm glad I did. Every time I spend time with them, it reminds me just how lucky I am and how much I really do have to be thankful for. Forget horror stories and family drama and infighting. My mother's family just doesn't do those things. Not that they don't occasionally have spats within the family, but it's like some unspoken law that thou shall not bring it up at family gatherings.
At family gatherings, we sit and talk and enjoy each others company. Christmas is a time to be outrageous and laugh your ass off (and we all have lots of ass to laugh off!)
Plus, there were ham biscuits with REAL ham, and bourbon balls (with REAL bourbon) and cheese balls. It may not have been country club dinner, but I ain't complaining!
