Gyrocopter lands on US Capital lawn

In the first link, we see that the military keeps MH-65 helicopters on standby to deal with slow-moving aerial threats.  The only Dolphin helicopters I have ever seen are operated by the US Coast Guard, and I don't think they are armed.  Are there armed Dolphin helicopters? I wonder who operates them.

Paging DM1333.

I've only ever flown in unarmed USCG HH-65s, but I always sat in a gunner's seat when I flew, so I think they all have seats for trigger pullers.

That's a lovely picture of a yellow box with some text in it.

What happened to the AAA on the rooftop that we were told about after 9/11/01?

Was all of that removed because of the sequestration?

FDR/Truman had AAA coverage  (M-2s and 40mm pom-poms plus possibly some 20mms)

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

I was wondering if the pilot spoke with an Australian accent.

To be fair, the government ALWAYS thinks civil disobedience is terrorism.  It's only if you win you get to call it "civil".

Eyewitness reports on the nooz say he came in really low, just above the tops of the light poles. Could be he was too low for most of the AA systems to get a bead on.

Also, they probably didn't want start spraying fire into an area with a large number of tourists for such a small vehicle.

Big deal...  ;/

Of course, "because 9/11" we need to make a big fuss about everything. Restricted this and prohibited that and security here and lock down there. You see, "they hate us for our freedoms so we need to take those freedoms away so then we'll be safe"...

After 9/11 we had a few avenger turrets in various places (one was in the parking lot at the Navy annex where I used to work), those have since been removed.

I believe we also had a few surface launched AMRAAM (also called CLAWS or whatever the Norwegians call the system we sold to them) in places, I believe one was at Boling (sp?) AFB along 295.  That is also gone.

The USSS (or a military unit that works with them) has some stingers, but in general, I believe we don't do fixed AAA or SAMs any more because supposedly the surveillance is sufficient to enable intercept by aircraft...or provide enough warning for USSS or whomever to break out a stinger.

The guy flew some 70 miles or so, the SS were pretty much aware that he was planning the event and had been notified that he was heading out - per news reports I have listened to on the radio.

Obviously the answer is to clamp down hard on private aviation.
