"Man Law"
« on: November 01, 2006, 10:24:41 AM »
Just a little rant here...

Those new Miller commercials with the bunch of old farts sitting around the table legislating "Man Law" while drinking beer are just about the worst commercials ever. And what's even worse is that the whole "Man Law" rigamarole is popping up everywhere. It was funny once. Maybe twice. It soon ceases to be funny when every time you say something you think is important you end it with "Man Law?" And then half a dozen other guys chime in with "Man Law!" "Man Law!"

Grrrhh. rolleyes

I knew the first response would be some smart-aleck wisin' off. Tongue

I don't know if I could do without football in fall, and golf in summer. But, if it wasn't for those two sports, I'd never watch the thing.

So, you enjoy watching athletic young men in tight, shiny pants, piling on top of each other, grabbing each other, and slapping one another on the buttocks?

Do you watch "professional wrestling," too?

Yep. Tongue

No, I refuse to watch professional wrestling. And c'mon, you're slipping fistful. No witty put-down for golf?

I don't think admitting that you watch televised golf requires us to interject with a witty put down.

Golf is a good a game as marksmanship.  They're actually a lot more similar than they are different.  They both require the same mental skills.  Those that play both tend to find that their participation in one can help their performance in the other.

Those who rag on golf tend to be those who don't play it.  In other words, they're speaking of that which they utterly do not understand.

Heh. I only rag on watching golf on TV. Been to the range a few times recently, golf range that is. Never played a hole, but there is something satisfying about hitting a nice straight ball with a driver on only your second attempt. Pity it only went about 170yds. Really has the potential to be addictive, and yet I've not any interest (yet) in playing a round of golf.

Playing golf is one thing; eye-hand coordination, perseverence, committment to furthering your skill. No problem
Watching golf on TV? Please, get a life.

Seriously, though, I think it might have something to do with the people you spend time with.  I've seen the commercials once or twice and thought they were mildly amusing, but I don't hear people using it off the TV.

Well, cordex, it's not so much the people I hang with as it is the guys on some other forums I like to visit.

It's seriously annoying when a good thread is ruined by someone saying something, ending it with "Man Law?" and the rest of the thread is more guys just chiming in, "Man Law!"

I suppose that's what I get for straying from intelligent forums like THR and APS.

I grew up playing football and watching football.  I got into sporty car racing.  So, for me, watching those on the boobtoob just comes naturally.  Aside from such as the History Channel, the rest of TV is even worse than Mr. Minow's "Wasteland" comment of decades ago.

Part of my deal is that when an ad comes on, my mind turns off.  Or I go get a Budweiser/Dos Equis/cuppakawfee or go to the bathroom. Smiley  They don't advertise anything I'd want, anyway, 'ceptin' maybe Budweiser.

So I don't have a clue as to what is "Man Law".

Golf?  That's to play, not to watch, as far as my interest in it.  As far as the skills involved, the ability to concentrate and focus made Chip McCormick quite good at it--and superb in pistol-shooting competition.

I think you might be spending too much time with idiots. The commercials play out here too and I still think they are funny because I have never had an experience like the one that has happened to you.

Yeah! That's the ticket - they've gotten to you. Nice dress you're wearing by the way.  grin
