BB (not pellet) steel targets
« on: May 30, 2015, 02:23:22 AM »
My father, brother-in-law, and the nephews have been playing with BB guns lately, so I'm looking to buy some kind of steel target set-up, or if not steel, then whatever would be appropriate for BB guns. Maybe something with a horizontal cross-bar, and a few gongs hanging from it. The ones I've seen at Cabelas are all for firearms or pellet guns, and they all say "no BBs."

Any suggestions?

Or has anyone seen a good set of plans for making one?

BBs bounce badly, so maybe something angled to bounce them toward the ground?

Anything made for .22LR will work for BBs. Like Griz said, the biggest issue will be ricochets.

A trap made for pellets but with a qarter inch of duct seal over surfaces.

Or just a junction bkx stuffed with duct seal.

Really bad idea to just use a plain steel target, IMHO. BBs richochet like crazy.

I would build a trap as suggested above.

I have used soup cans on top of a stick in the dirt for the better part of 50 years.
Poke a stick in the dirt and open a can of soup.  Eat the soup and take the can outside to the stick.
Turn the can so the open part (where the soup used to be) is pointing down.
Lower the can over the stick and let go.
If you did it right, the can will stay put, right there on top of the stick!!!
This might not work as described in zero gravity areas.

Coffee or paint cans may be more suitable for beginners.   Increase the diameter of the stick as needed, but don't eat the paint!

Recently I discovered an interesting variation - a soup can hung on a string from a tree branch.
Protip- Install the longest string possible from highest branch available.
