Possible Webley revolver replica
« on: June 13, 2015, 07:37:50 PM »
British gunmaker Anderson Wheeler announced their replica of the Webley revolver earlier this year, called the Mk VII, re-engineered to be safe to fire .357 Magnum cartridges without stretching the top latch to being useless . Initial release date was announced to be in May this year.

I...I kind of want one. But considering Anderson Wheeler is in the luxury gun market, I'm sure the revolvers cost a small fortune. Their shotguns retail for about $18,000, which is inexpensive only when you compare it to Purdey or Holland & Holland or Fabbri.

Huh. Webley (actual company) is also going to start remaking (Mk VI model in .455) them if they get 1000 signatures & deposits of $100...intriguing.

What the world needs is a six-shot break-top that shoots a big fat .50 at nice slow pace of around 650 to 700.

I also just found a Swedish retailer of their top break Co2 revolver. I must have one...

Enh.    There's a company in India, that makes new Webley .38 S&W clones for their civilian market.  If one really wants a new made break top gun.

Don't know about Swedeistan, but here in the United State it would be cheaper and more practical to find an functioning original Webley breaktop, and set yourself up to handload .455 for it.

Just my opinion.  A modern breaktop in a larger caliber is one of those things that would be cool if it could be pulled off, but it probably can't be done economically and wouldn't have any advantage over modern designs.

(And come to think of it, I've still not heard ought of the Remington R51 re-re-release....)

I don't care about that. I want one for fun. Not everything has to be practical.
It's a shame about the R51. I wanted them to take off, just because I liked their look. Bit of art deco to it.

IIRC, it's in .32 S&W. And it costs like $1400.

Where do I send my signature and deposit?

Which is linked from: http://www.webley.co.uk/Pages/home.html which seems to be Webley & Scott's official homepage. So Webley & Scott seems to endorse it, but I haven't got a clue how serious/legit the first link is.

Doesn't the Schofield from Uberti fill that particular bill?

While nice they're not .50. I'd like one in .62 like the Bland-Pryse of yore but I'd run into the destructive device law.

OK, maybe I'm wrong.   .45 Colt.  Hmmmm.

Yeah, I know they'd be single action.

I highly recommend a Webley for a range toy.  It's a great example of large, slow, and awesome.  And it makes you want to wear a Fedora and whip.

Didn't someone used to make a 1911 conversion for a 50GI round?

A Schofield in 45 ACP with moon clips would be fine for me.

What if that's already your typical range attire?

They do.  I was thinking they sold conversion kits, but maybe that was just for the Glock conversion they had at one time.

There's a conversion kit to turn tactical Tupperware into a Webley?

Yeah. It takes a Glock 20, 2 lbs of Black Powder, a bottle of Laphroaig, the Staff of Ra and a Workbench from Fallout 3.  =D

That's funny right there, though I'm betting a less peaty whiskey might net you a S&W 1917. =D

So what do you get if you use Loch Dhu?

I haven't had it, but after looking it up I'm thinking Webley-Fosbery or Bulldog.
