Top Gear coming to Netflix
« on: June 08, 2015, 02:35:31 PM »
Looks like Hammond and May told the BBC to get stuffed, they aren't doing the show without Clarkson.  The three are apparently in talks to take the show over to Netflix.

I'll watch it, but I'm sure the Beeb owns enough of the shticks that it won't be Top Gear.

It should still be good though.

I'm sorry, but random race with crappy cars doesn't seem like it can be owned.

They might have different NAMES, but I'm betting the essence of the show will be the same.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

Well, elements like The Stig, Star in a Reasonably Priced Car, the Cool Wall, etc., could pose issues.

Years ago when Letterman changed networks the one he left claimed ownership of the Top Ten list, and it was quite a tussle.

Reports are that Chris Evans is lined up to be the main presenter on BBC's continuation, although there's a bunch of confusion and conflicting reports.

I saw him when he was on Star in a Reasonably Priced Car. He was funny, but I don't think he has the kind of personality to carry a show like Top Gear.

I assume the Stig is owned by BBC. However, is "having a masked test driver"? Oh, hey! Maybe tie in with Disney and get Boba Fett to drive it.

Same for star in a reasonably priced car. Is "having stars race in cars?"

There may be fights, but I'm betting Netflix is more than equipped to handle them.

It all depends on British television copyright law, and I don't know squat about it other than it differs significantly from US law.

When Top Gear moved from Midlands TV to the BBC, they relaced it with a show called Fifth Gear  A bit more serious, but you'd almost think you had stumbled onto Top Gear with guest hosts if you watch it.

This would make me renew my Netflix. Had an account for a few years and dropped it when they did the whole pay for DVD and streaming as two different items or whatever is was a few years ago. I bet they are gambling there are a lot of people like me out there.

I actually like "Fifth Gear", but don't find it to be even slightly similar to "Top Gear". I hope Jeremy and company do continue on with the show!

How many times can they repeat themselves?  I get it..  little car with a 1 liter engine.  Move on.  I only watched it for a couple of minutes, and hate it.

Well, as far as I'm concerned this is a disaster in the making.

Chris Evans has been confirmed as the new host of Top Gear.

http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-33162666

He just does not have the personality to host the show.
