Seattle proposes new tax on firearms and ammo

The question is if the proposed law would withstand a state pre-emption challenge or if the argument that a 'tax' is not a firearms law subject to state pre-emption will carry the day.

I saw mention of that on an NRA email link.  Main point I noted was this only taxes the people that are least likely use guns for violence, law abiding gun owners.  I doesn't tax illegal guns at all. 

Why is it that liberal's gun control initiatives nearly always target law abiding gun owners rather than illegal guns?  I guess there is always the bent thinking that if 1000 firearms sales are stopped and only 1 of those was to a crook, then it was a good law.

They justify this by claiming that the legally owned guns are just an accident waiting to happen. They prefer to ignore the upside of guns.

Cumo woke up to the opposition to his brilliant plan for background checks for ammo http://www.syracuse.com/state/index.ssf/2015/07/cuomo_agrees_to_changes_to_ny_safe_act_regarding_ammunition_sales.html and tried to placate gun owners by allowing internet ammo sales again.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo has agreed to suspend plans for background checks for ammunition sales in New York and allow internet sales of ammunition, changing part of the NY Safe Act, according to state Sen. James Seward.

The changes are part of a "memorandum of understanding" struck between senate Republicans and Cuomo, a Democrat, according to Seward. It wasn't immediately clear if Assembly Democrats backed the changes.

"I think it's very significant," Seward, R-Milford, said this afternoon. "This is a banner day for law-abiding gun owners in New York."

At least one sane person in California (the last one remaining free range??) says a tax on bullets will not stand up.

If some locality is going to tax guns and ammo, what's to stop them from taxing, say, the right to vote with a poll tax?

Or taxing blog posts? Letters to the editor of a local paper?

All gun control is meant to do that. It's literally the elite disarming the working and middle classes. You don't see the police and military being stripped of arms nor do you see their private security being disarmed. It's also the final recourse of the working class since the working class lacks the financial influence to effect change through lobbying, bribery, and other ways of moving around money to make the world work in your favor. The final hand of the welder, coal miner, clerk, plumber, truck driver, and every other "laborer" is one with a rifle in it. Without that final hand you are truly nothing but a slave to the state and any interest group which wishes to strip you of your other inalienable human rights.
