Judging from the video, the clerk and his wife are of the South Asian persuasion, and the hero of our story is a white dude. If there were any black customers, then I'm sure the old guy and/or the cops would have shot and killed them, because racism/white privilege/patriarchy/gunz-are-bad.

The average hit rate for police in armed confrontations is around 11% to 15%. This aging relic (I can say that, because I'm his contemporary) managed 66%. As a long-ago song by Meatloaf says, Two out of three ain't bad."

I don't know that a good study has ever been done, but I'd be really interested in comparing the hit rate of police in duty shootings vs. civilians in SD shootings.

The relic seems to have been standing pretty close to the bandit. I bet even a police officer could make 2 out of 3 in that situation. Especially if the bad guy walked on four legs.
